“There is no neutral ground in the universe; every square inch, every split second, is claimed by God and counter-claimed by Satan”

Do you need a Miami criminal attorney to help you understand some of Florida’s crazy laws?
In response to some Florida laws getting bad press on the internet, in 2011, lawmakers passed a bill doing away with a number of the outdated Florida laws that have been called “crazy” and “dumb” on internet listings. Included in those removed from the books was a law that prohibiting motor vehicles from coasting down hills in neutral.
Aside from being difficult to enforce, this law became unpopular in an age when gas prices are high, and fuel efficiency is a top priority for many drivers.
Sponsors of the bill Rep. Ritch Workman, (R) Melbourne, and Sen. Evelyn Lynn, (R) Daytona Beach, released this statement in defense of removing the law:
“Gas prices are approaching $4 per gallon. There is no logical reason for a law that puts the brakes on commonsense practices such as efficient driving. It’s not that Floridians want to scoot around in Flintstone-mobiles. We just don’t want or need a mandate that prevents us from a safe and helpful tactic such as coasting. It may save a few pennies in gas, but Kimbrough just doesn’t get it.”
Police officer Derek Friend warned Floridian drivers to be cautious in making the change:
“You don’t necessarily have immediate control of the vehicle. If the vehicle’s not in drive and you can’t immediately control what the car is doing, then that’s where the safety issue comes in.”
