Our Miami personal injury attorney firm is posting a series on avoiding personal injuries common in the summer. Drowning is the #1 cause of death for young children in Florida, and we know you want to enjoy the pools and Miami Beach this summer, so here are some tips to reduce risks around bodies of water and residential swimming pools:
- Never allow kids near water unattended even if they can swim well. Make sure supervising adults are strong swimmers, with CPR certification.
- Most drowning deaths take place in residential pools. Make sure your pool is fenced on all sides with 5 foot high fencing, and gates that lock automatically. See to it that all emergency equipment, including resuscitation equipment is kept easily within reach.
- Your pool must have depth markers.
- Never swim while under the influence of alcohol, Never swim in unknown or unsafe bodies of water. Never swim alone.
