Our Miami personal injury attorney firm is posting a series on summer injuries…part of the “how not to see us” series. 🙂
You may have heard that drowning is the leading cause of death for young children in Florida, but older children, teens, and adults are at risk too. There are a devastating number of accidents involving teenage boys.
Reduce your family’s risks:
One thing you can do is get your children swimming lessons, if you spend much time near water. The American Academy of Pediatrics no longer discourages swimming lessons or children ages 1-4 as new evidence shows they may be less likely to drown if they have had formal swimming instruction. Previously, they felt children’s risk in exposure to water for swim lessons outweighed benefits, but it turns out that may not be true. They do not recommend lessons for all young children, but if you spend much time at the beach, it is something to seriously consider.
Swimming lessons can continue until the child is a strong swimmer.
