You can never be too vigilant on the roads of Miami. A recent accident that took the life of a teen and injured two others illustrates this point. WSVN 7 reports on this in a recent article titled “North Miami High School students mourn death of classmate.”
According to the author of the article, “North Miami Senior High School is mourning Wednesday, a day after three students were struck by a car. One student was killed and two others were hospitalized after a car struck them on their way to the school, Tuesday morning. The accident occurred at Northeast 135th Street and Seventh Avenue in North Miami, sometime after 6:30 a.m. According to officials, the students were hit just 15 minutes before the school zone speed limit was enforced. One male student, later identified as Henry Ronald Touissant, was pronounced dead on the scene. For most of the morning, his body lay covered in the street, after he was hit. His classmates gathered in prayer on their way to school and signed a poster in memory of Henry, Wednesday. ‘I was in class when I found out, and I was shaking. I couldn’t get my head around what had happened,’ said one classmate. Classmates voiced their concerns, hoping this won’t happen again. ‘People need to start paying attention to the road and paying attention to pedestrians that are crossing, slowing down and stuff,’ said another classmate. ‘Us kids need to pay attention, too.’ He was walking with two sisters. One of them, identified as Laura Perez was airlifted to Jackson Memorial Hospital and is now undergoing surgery. Her boyfriend, Waldo Singotani, described her as ‘funny, calm and caring.’ Her sister, Carolina Perez, was also hospitalized although she was not hit. The students are said to be between the ages of 15 and 16 years old.”
