Traffic Violation FAQ #1 from FL Law Firm Gilbert & Smallman

What do I do if I get pulled over by a police officer?

If you are pulled over on a roadway by a police officer you should cooperate with their request to inspect your driver’s license, registration, and proof of insurance.  If you are lucky and also have a good driving record, the officer may issue you a warning.  However, if you are given a citation, you are NOT required to sign it, but you must be willing to accept the ticket itself.  In Florida, you have 30 days to avoid late fees and to request a hearing in traffic court.  In those first 30 days, you should contact one of our trained traffic lawyers to make your hearing request and fight your ticket in Court.  You will not have to make any Court appearances.  When you elect to pay your ticket, you are telling the state of Florida that you are guilty, that you want points on your license (if it’s a moving violation), and that you want to pay to go to traffic school to get rid of the points.  Our trained ticket lawyers are able to get many tickets dismissed, and get reduced fines, no points, and no traffic school on many others.
