Check Out This Boy’s Inspirational Survival Story

MRI_brainFew terms are as fitting as “traumatic brain injury.” These injuries can be tragic and devastating for the victims and their families. In some cases, they produce inspirational stories, however. Consider a recent article for CBS Miami titled “Boy’s Tale Of Survival Inspires Surprise Fit For Superhero.”

Gaby Fleischman of CBS Miami writes, “A three year old boy, who continues to recover at the hospital after he accidentally shot himself in the head, got a surprise fit for a superhero on Tuesday. A group of strangers showered Darnal Mundy with gifts after hearing about his miraculous story of recovery. ‘It’s a blessing,’ said Jason Jimeno with Liberty Tax. ‘One of the best gifts I’ve had in a long time, I’m thrilled at how he’s progressing. I saw the story a month ago and it touched me.’ Mundy has been recovering at Jackson Rehabilitation Hospital after spending a month in the ICU. He suffered a traumatic brain injury in August when he accidentally shot himself in the head. Mundy’s parents were asleep when their son reportedly climbed onto a chair and reached into a dresser drawer looking for an iPad, instead he found his dad’s gun. ‘He was in a coma for three weeks. When he came to rehab, he wasn’t eating, he wasn’t talking, he wasn’t breathing on his own,’ said Doctor Seema Khurana, the UHealth Director of pediatric rehabilitation at Jackson Rehabilitation Hospital. ‘He’s done better than anyone would have ever expected. He’s a miracle child.’”
