Ongoing Issues with GM Recall

As we go about our daily lives, most of us don’t spend every waking moment worrying about how the products we use throughout each day could malfunction and harm us.  Laws and regulations are in place to govern manufacturing institutions and put the consumer’s mind at ease.  In most cases, the guidelines that are in place are sufficient in preventing any unsafe products from reaching the market, but occasionally a defective model still slips through the cracks.

By now you’ve probably already heard about the recent GM recall of over 1.6 million vehicles after a defective ignition switch caused of 12 deaths as well as countless other accidents and injuries on the road.  The resulting recall has been effective in taking problem vehicles off the market, but it looks like risk doesn’t end there.

It seems that despite recalling so many vehicles, the faulty ignition is still available on the spare parts market and could be used for replacements and repairs of otherwise safe GM vehicles.  The investigation is ongoing to determine just how many of these defective ignition switches are still out on the market.

GM RecallAll it took for these particular parts to fail was a heavy ring of keys.  When the ignition switch was jostled by any amount of weight, the vehicle’s engine would disengage and airbags would be turned off.  This serious malfunction has already had devastating consequences for unsuspecting drivers, and now the solution might be farther from GM’s grasp than was previously anticipated.

Despite any measures being taken now to prevent further damages, nothing can undo the injuries and deaths that have already resulted from this flagrant disregard for automobile safety.  Personal injury and wrongful death caused by a defective product are devastating to victims and their families.

For victims of this and other such cases, it is important to have an experienced personal injury lawyer on your side to earn every possible penny of compensation for losses and medical bills.  Don’t go it alone!
