Public Shaming for TWITs

No matter how much we beg and plead and reprimand, it seems like drivers are hell-bent on fiddling with their phones while behind the wheel.  Even making it illegal in many states has even failed to eradicate the deadly trend, possibly making rebellions ones even more eager to text while driving.  Perhaps the answer was obvious all along – if people won’t respond to being told what to do, they might at least respond to public humiliation.

San Francisco graphic artist Brian Singer has launched a new campaign against texting while driving that he is calling TWIT Spotting.  Texting while in traffic (TWIT) as we know is an extremely dangerous and distracting habit, and those who TWIT should be ashamed of themselves.  To that end, Singer has launched TWIT Spotting as a citywide public shaming campaign that he hopes will finally get some attention.

If you are caught in the act of TWIT, the photo of you will be posted online as well as on 11 billboards around Frisco.  Pedestrians and bystanders are encouraged to take pictures of distracted drivers from sidewalks and bus stops and submit them to be posted by TWIT Spotting.  If this finally convinces those who text while in traffic that people see them when they’re being irresponsible, maybe drivers will think twice before looking at their phone.

Texting is the number one cause of distraction behind the wheel today, and right now distracted driving is responsible for 3,300 automotive-related deaths annually.  That’s nearly ten a day!  Shameful.

If you or a loved one has been injured due to the negligence of a TWIT or any other distracted driver, you deserve compensation.  Medical bills, car repairs, even funeral costs that are left in the wake of these avoidable accidents should not be left on the shoulders of victims and their families.  Call the personal injury attorneys of Fort Lauderdale and Miami today and we’ll go to bat for you.

In the mean time, isn’t it about time we start a TWIT Spotting campaign in Miami?
